Green tourism is all about attracting visitors who put a value on destinations, hotels and B&Bs, restaurants, cafes and activities which are clearly committed to operating in an environmentally friendly way.

Recent research shows that 32% of international visitors are more likely to make a positive choice if a place offers green credentials. In other words, having recognized green accreditation could make the difference between visitors choosing your business or someone else’s.

By becoming a participant in the Green Tourism initiative for Strangford Lough and Mourne Mountains & Ring of Gullion you can find out how to make simple changes, for example, economizing on energy and fuel or reducing food miles by using local producers, which will make a real difference in every sense: by lowering your costs, attracting more business from a green-aware clientele, and by helping to make Northern Ireland a cleaner environment for us all.

This Green Tourism initiative is managed by BTS in partnership with Green Tourism on behalf of Ards Borough Council and Newry & Mourne, Banbridge and Down District Councils to help develop potential new markets by encouraging businesses across the region to ‘go greener’.

Come along to one of a number of local workshops followed by a date convenient to you a day’s individual assessment/audit by an accredited Green Tourism advisor at your premises. Better still, the information required for your assessment is all gathered at the time – no need for lengthy form-filling on your part, as we understand you’ve got a business to run.

This is a highly practical programme that will benefit from a dedicated advertising and promotional campaign to raise awareness of green tourism throughout St Patrick’s Country, Strangford Lough and Mourne Mountains & Ring of Gullion.
